The Humanist Chaplaincy at American University + AU Rationalists & Atheists
invite you to come hear Jason Torpy, President of the Military Association of Atheists & Freethinkers (MAAF), speak on MAAF’s work on behalf of veterans and active military personnel, particularly in:
1) promoting equality and non-discrimination policies for all military personnel, including non-theists, women, & LGBTQ members;
2) advocating for Humanist chaplains to receive official recognition, inclusion, & equal treatment serving in the US military; and
3) defending the Constitution’s ban on the “establishment,” promotion, & privileging of religion, as well as the Founders’ separation of religious and civil authority – “church & state.”
Jason will also share with us some of the stories of freethinking veterans, as we honor their service at the start of Veterans’ Day observances. We’ll also explore how Humanists and other non-theists in the US and other militaries are advocating for more progressive policies and peace, inspired by how our common humanity can unite us and help us transcend religious, ethnic, and other conflicts that have for ages spurred war.
